DSC_0033.JPGMe and Henry David Thoreau

For those of you who don't know me or who want a refresher course...

I've been teaching (i.e. making FANTASTIC bulletin boards) in NYC public schools for six years now. While quite often the city school system makes me want to throw myself into traffic, I am also constantly amazed by the hundreds of committed, thoughtful educators I meet all the time, everyday (including yourselves). I currently teach part-time-- speech/debate & drama to a beautiful group of 5th and 6th grade girls at an all-girls charter school. I'm also a doctoral student here at Fordham in the Language, Literacy, and Learning program. I'm starting my dissertation this semester. I will be writing on African-American students' language ideologies of code-switching. I also work on a research team that studies teenagers' digital literacy. I absolutely love working with teachers, and I am thus very excited about our semester. When school and work aren't tsunami-ing my life, I like a good dose of fiction and fresh-baked goods. I like friends with talents (since I don't really have any performable ones), and I get my fine manners from my southern upbringing. Looking forward to a great semester....
